Social Media continues to gallop along on ever-changing terrain. You just master one thing and boom, the landscape changes. Do you feel the wind in your hair as you enjoy the ride or are you crawling along? (Part of learning to ride is learning how to get back on when you fall off. And yes, I would know.)

I came across a recent blog post by Cara Pring of “The Social Skinny” that is loaded with over two hundred mind-blowing statistics on Social Media. I picked out just 22 that really jumped at me. These facts reflect that everything has changed in how people market, buy and communicate.

1.  91% of online adults use social media regularly

2.  YouTube users watch more than 3 billion hours of video per month

3.  There are more devices connected to the Internet than there are people on Earth (source: AllTwitter)

4.  Every minute of the day:

  • 100,000 tweets are sent
  • 684,478 pieces of content are shared on Facebook
  • 2 million search queries are made on google
  • 48 hours of video are uploaded to YouTube
  • 47,000 apps are downloaded from the App Store
  • 3,600 photos are shared on Instagram
  • 571 websites are created

5.  Internet users spend 22.5% of their online time social networking

6.  There are more than 2.27 billion people online (doubled since 2007)

8.  79% of online shoppers spend 50% of their online shopping time researching products

9.  57% of marketers acquired customers via blogging

10.  44% of marketers acquired customers via Twitter

11.  US Internet users spend three times longer on social media and blogs than email
