Restoring Vision and Upgrading Dreams

vision_upgradeIn the past month, I have worked with hundreds of people on vision casting. It has been interesting to note how many struggle with giving their imagination free rein – even for just a few hours. It was Einstein who said, “Creativity is intelligence having fun“.

How can there be such a disconnect between vision and the reality of daily life? I have been exploring this in depth, but for simplicity sake, let’s compare the ultra- complex function of your brain to your smart phone.

Several months ago, I ran an upgrade on my iPhone. I made sure I backed my phone up, since I am aware of the possibility that things might not go as expected. Something went awry in the process of upgrading and my phone had to be reset in order to get it to work again. I figured, “no big deal”, since I knew I had all my data backed up in iTunes and could restore it. Unfortunately, the backup was corrupted and wouldn’t upload to my phone. The loss of thousands of pictures was my biggest regret. It was a royal pain to lose all my contacts as well, but those can be recovered.

A scenario much like this can result in the process of living every day. We deal with stress and cope with constant change that can leave us unable to retrieve the pictures we created of a vibrant future. We can operate quite efficiently out of our intellect, leaving out the vital connection with our dreams and visions. Your life can be busy and productive without that connection. Eventually, you lose touch with the heart of WHY you are doing what you are doing. That typically leaves you discontent, bored, frustrated, and dry.

The good news is dreams can be restored. Granted, some actually get corrupted to the point you have to wipe the slate clean and build new ones in their place. It is never too late to dream a new dream. In fact, it’s vital that you do!

Leadership demands vision. Significant accomplishment is always accompanied by significant vision.
If you haven’t done the work to create a current vision board – you owe it to yourself to do that.
